I filled out my mail ballot while drawing this cartoon so forgive me for any unnecessary dithering and or hurried caricatures. It is really kind of depressing, all those Judicial votes for people with no other options.. and or how they say a race is 'non partisan' but you just need to read the groups they're endorsed by to learn what everybody knows I guess. My ever ready solution to combat 'voting fatigue' is to write in a candidate name (i.e. David Boe or Robert Hill) in races where voting simply won't make any difference... OTHERWISE follow this voting guide instructions if you love America, Washington State and the infernal constitution of the United States of America which is neither divinely inspired nor hanging by a thread, so go NORM DICKS YOURSELF GLEN BECK! Also, special thanks to Tacoma Mama for doing all the leg work.

by marumaruyopparai on 10/19/2010 @ 2:00am | I don't care what anybody says about him, I love Glen Beck. |
by Thorax O'Tool on 10/19/2010 @ 2:39am | Anyone who votes for any incumbents needs to be shipped to Siberia. Vote whatever party you're brainwashed, err I mean "affiliated" with, just not for the same idiots who keep selling us downriver without a raft. This election day, think instead of swallowing the blue pill... again. |
by fredo on 10/19/2010 @ 7:22am | Patty Murray was instrumental in passing the Obamacare health plan. And now the other shoe is ready to drop:
WASHINGTON – Aerospace giant Boeing is joining the list of companies that say the new health care law could have a potential downside for their workers. In a letter mailed to employees late last week, the company cited the overhaul as part of the reason it is asking some 90,000 nonunion workers to pay significantly more for their health plan next year. A copy of the letter was obtained Monday by The Associated Press. Read more: www.thenewstribune.com/2010/10/18/138711... |
by NineInchNachos on 10/19/2010 @ 8:03am | thorax, you're one silly hombre |
by jenyum on 10/19/2010 @ 8:14am | Poor Jake Fey, he really doesn't belong in the dumpster. A perfectly good candidate we can use later. Reduce, reuse, recycle!
|
by jenyum on 10/19/2010 @ 8:15am | LOVE the Never Ending Story reference, though. |
by NineInchNachos on 10/19/2010 @ 8:16am | KEEP JAKE FEY IN TACOMA! VOTE JINKINS |
by NineInchNachos on 10/19/2010 @ 8:18am | i was also inspired by more incredible Jessica Smeall endorsements...

by dolly varden on 10/19/2010 @ 8:22am | We need Jake's environmental/energy expertise in the legislature. The Tacoma-area delegation is clueless about that stuff. So is most of the rest of the state legislature.
Laurie is great, but doesn't add expertise that existing members of the delegation don't already have covered. She should run for Regala's seat when she retires. |
by NineInchNachos on 10/19/2010 @ 8:24am | play this video in the background (other tab) and re-read this tacomic

by captiveyak on 10/19/2010 @ 8:27am | I like Jake Fey. I'd prefer to see him remain on the Council. But he'd make a damn great representative. |
by NineInchNachos on 10/19/2010 @ 8:30am | agreed. it's pretty much a win win whatever happens for that particular seat. |
by tacoma1 on 10/19/2010 @ 8:42am | Publicola and Seattle Transit Blog both pick Jake Fey. I have nothing against Laurie Jinkins, but I think Jake could be in a better position to help Tacoma with our transportation issues. He has my vote. Their reasoning seems sound to me. Links below. www.publicola.net/2010/10/18/publicola-p... seattletransitblog.com/2010/10/18/2010-g... Why wouldn't Tacoman's want a local Rep that can help us get better environmental and transportation soulutions for our area. Just look at all the damage Mary Margaret Haugen from Camano Island is doing to us. We need to fix that situation fast, and having Jake in Olympia is a good way to start. |
by NineInchNachos on 10/19/2010 @ 8:59am | blah blah blah Jake Fey. Laurie Jinkins rides a scooter! That's the future my friend. Did you see the primary? Jake Fey is 2nd best. |
by NineInchNachos on 10/19/2010 @ 9:01am | god I hate those dinks at the seattle transit blog. you know, how dare you dirty my comment thread with the likes of their link! |
by tacoma1 on 10/19/2010 @ 9:02am | NIN
I respect your reasoning, but I'm still voting for Jake. |
by fredo on 10/19/2010 @ 9:03am | Jake and Laurie are both left wing. But there are differences. Jake was directly involved in the closed door city council appointments last year which violated the open meetings requirements. He knew better, he's not stupid. Laurie is fresh and clean, untainted by controversy. |
by NineInchNachos on 10/19/2010 @ 9:05am | what reasoning? For the record I'd like it noted that Laurie Jinkins sent me personalized post cards in the mail and when I filled out a questionnaire with venn diagrams in all the answer fields, she sent me another postcard with a note. Jake Fey NEVER responded to ANY of my advances... keep him in Tacoma where he belongs! |
by NineInchNachos on 10/19/2010 @ 9:06am | MEANWHILE FROM SEATTLE PI: blog.seattlepi.com/miltpriggee/archives/... |
by tacoma1 on 10/19/2010 @ 9:06am | NiN I was being facetious. fredo I definitely don't respect your reasoning, and I'm still voting for Jake. |
by thriceallamerican on 10/19/2010 @ 9:07am | Plus Save Our Sonics Kris endorsed Jake Fey, even appearing on a mail flyer. That's gotta be good for something. Fey and Jinkins are both strong candidates (though much as I like them both, a choice between 2 D's reflects pretty poorly on the top two crap). I think the transportation/environmental angle is important. Like dolly v says, Darneille and Regala already bring some of the social services and education chops to the table for the 27th that Jinkins would excel at, so I gotta go with Fey for now, with a strong endorsement of Jinkins wherever she next seeks office. |
by NineInchNachos on 10/19/2010 @ 9:10am | and how can we forget the Jessica Smeall campaign cartoon from the volcano and Tacoma weekly:
(I friended this young cartoonist on facebook, he's a funny guy) |
by NineInchNachos on 10/19/2010 @ 9:12am | @thrice I saw that too! I cut out that picture!!! |
by fredo on 10/19/2010 @ 9:12am | "Tacoma has a balanced budget and is on solid financial ground, even in the recession" Jake Fey campaign brochure
That's an exaggeration if not an outright lie. Under Fey's term in office the city has blown through a $40,000,000 reserve fund, is spending pension accounts to fund day-to-day needs and has just decided to begin borrowing to make up for revenue shortfalls. This hardly places Tacoma on "solid financial ground." Quite shameful. |
by fredo on 10/19/2010 @ 9:20am | "Darneille and Regala already bring some of the social services and education chops to the table for the 27th." thrice
With a bit of luck, Darneille will be leaving office in January. She's part of the overspending legislature which has plunged the state into an economic quagmire. |
by thriceallamerican on 10/19/2010 @ 9:27am | It really would take "luck". Like the vast Democratic majority in the 27th District all misplacing their ballots, etc. Ain't gonna happen, Darneille is a shoo-in. |
by thriceallamerican on 10/19/2010 @ 9:27am | Also, fredo, who do you think I'm going to take advice from, you or Save Our Sonics Guy? ;-) |
by fredo on 10/19/2010 @ 9:56am | no need to take my advice.
voters who prefer a highly dysfunctional state government with legislators who refuse to abide by commonly understood economic principles can certainly choose candidates with broad experience at that. |
by thriceallamerican on 10/19/2010 @ 10:31am | I'm tired of this analogy between people's budgets at home and that of the city/county/state/federal/whatever government. Fact is that we live in a society that in general values the government's role in taking care of those who are struggling, financially or otherwise, as well as providing other services that make our lives better. Some believe in this more, some less, but again, in general, we pay our taxes so that our government can do good stuff. Yes, we should always be demanding that our government do this intelligently and efficiently, and yes, there is always room for improvement, BUT in times where there is vast economic hardship and unemployment it is never more vital that our government provide good services. Finding revenue to do this is hard, but now's not the time for the government to do "more with less" because that whole line is total BS.
Rant over. |
by fredo on 10/19/2010 @ 10:43am | "Finding revenue to do this is hard, but now's not the time for the government to do "more with less" because that whole line is total BS."
The government doesn't need more revenue, it needs to define its priorities, then purchase those goods and services at the absolute lowest cost to the taxpayers. The idea that there is a limitless pool of taxpayer money out there and that no entitlement, regardless of how crazy sounding, can ever be limited or withdrawn is total BS. |
by thriceallamerican on 10/19/2010 @ 10:49am | Prioritizing and efficiency are absolutely a necessity.
Putting on the hurt to try to force some sort of mad scramble isn't the right way to get there. Not that we're going to see eye to eye on this. |
by NineInchNachos on 10/19/2010 @ 11:32am | one of my favorite podcasts has an excellent interview:
Jill Lepore: Tea Party Time… and the Death of Compassion www.radioopensource.org/jill-lepore-tea-... “That’s where we are today,” Jill Lepore observes. “The whole question: ‘what would the founding fathers do?’ comes out of evangelical Chistianity, as in ‘what would Jesus do?’ … Glenn Beck talks about having had a conversion experience… The Tea Party movement presents the Constitution as a revealed religion.” |
by captiveyak on 10/19/2010 @ 11:44am | I like that comment, RR. I've always felt that we should not hold the Founding Fathers as some kind of absolute. "What Would the Founding Fathers Do?" is an impaired line of reasoning. Their methods and beliefs were just as flawed as ours today. Their opinions are of little benefit beyond the guiding documents they chartered.
As for this whole line of crap about how fey participated in budget hogwildery... my god that is a convenient argument. It's no use arguing against it since it so willfully ignores an entire host of facts. But to each their own! The fact that our city budget is in the condition that it's in is quite impressive, actually. |
by fredo on 10/19/2010 @ 11:49am | The fact that our city budget is in the condition that it's in is quite impressive, actually.
Some people are easily impressed. |
by fredo on 10/19/2010 @ 12:06pm | Under Fey's watch:
"Facing a longer and deeper recession than anticipated, Anderson and his budget team have spent the past two years dipping into $40 million of reserves, leaving open positions unfilled and trimming other costs to balance the current budget amid declining revenues." Read more: www.thenewstribune.com/2010/09/29/136066... Who is "willfully ignoring an entire host of facts?" |
by NineInchNachos on 10/19/2010 @ 12:08pm | Thank you CaptiveYak. the whole interview was terribly fascinating. History, Politics and debate is the one true NEVER ENDING STORY |
by Erik on 10/19/2010 @ 12:25pm | Great illustration. However, Jake Fey is a great leader in many ways on the Tacoma City Council and has led the way to may green progressive ideas on the council. This included modifying the Mixed Use Centers in Tacoma so that better development could occur there and empty lots could be filled in. He sponsored the amendment to reduce the off-street parking requirement so that more neighborhoods could start looking like Proctor rather than Westgate. He was also a leader in trying to restore the Winthrop Hotel back into a hotel. |
by thriceallamerican on 10/19/2010 @ 12:26pm | The Neverending Sto-reeeeeeeeey! Da-da-daaaa-duh-duh-daaaaa-duh-duh-daaaa! |
by NineInchNachos on 10/19/2010 @ 12:30pm | Keep Jake Fey in Tacoma. let him fix the winthrop and then he can go away and do whatever like so many others. |
by NineInchNachos on 10/19/2010 @ 12:31pm | Thrice! we still need to talk about THE HORNS OF DESTINY ! |
by fredo on 10/19/2010 @ 12:33pm | "more neighborhoods could start looking like Proctor rather than Westgate."
Which neighborhoods look more like Proctor than Westgate in the years since Jakes been in office? |
by NineInchNachos on 10/19/2010 @ 12:41pm | @fredo Upper Tacoma? |
by cisserosmiley on 10/19/2010 @ 3:04pm | most people actually prefer westgaet over proctor. this is factually based in revenue collection, foot traffic, rental rates, occupancy rates, and parking spots. i wish everyone saw the beauty of yesteryear or was raised on proctor like myself, going to mason, proctor video, the 76 station, gordon's hasty tasty...ya i know most of you tacomans weren't here or alive when these places were open. so even if proctor places are cool to some of us...let us not force our opinion on the majority which clearly prefers the modern model. it is OK, tacoma doesn't have to be cool...it can be busy, industrious, and not poor...that takes busy commercial and mixed use areas(even if they are less classy? than historical shopping enclaves) |
by NineInchNachos on 10/19/2010 @ 3:40pm | amen! |
by I'm from the Internet on 10/19/2010 @ 3:41pm | I'm as big of a progressive urbanism fetishist as anybody, but we need those energies on City Council more than in the legislature. At the NENC meeting, Jake even said he felt transit was more of a local issue. Gweh? Jake's passions seem council issues, Laurie's seem legislative ones. Considering Jake seems outmatched anyway when it comes to legislature-type skills like budget prioritization, I'm not gonna feel bad about voting Laurie. Two good candidates, but not a hard choice.
Also, venn diagrams? Bitchin'. Were potholes in the middle section? |
by NineInchNachos on 10/19/2010 @ 4:07pm | potholes where on there, but what was in the middle section is between me, the lord, and my candidate of choice. |
by NineInchNachos on 10/20/2010 @ 8:27am | it is this type of cynical 'to hell with them all' attitude that the Tacomic is pledged and actively engaged to destroy wildcelticrose.net/blog/?p=5514 I'm calling it VOTER APATHY. Yes VOTER APATHY is the product of a diseased mind. The Solution? Stop watching TEE VEE or listening to the RADIO.. you'll be happy and ad free. instead get all the information you need right here from your friendly neighborhood political cartoonist. |
by NineInchNachos on 10/24/2010 @ 3:18pm | Some endorsement funny from the TNT!
www.thenewstribune.com/2010/10/22/139211... |
by NineInchNachos on 3/31/2011 @ 12:57pm | go go Laurie Jinkins
www.thenewstribune.com/2011/03/31/160661... haters gonna hate |
by Mofo from the Hood on 3/31/2011 @ 1:10pm | Freshman Laurie Jinkins says homosexuality pays.
What freshman Laurie Jinkins says proves nothing. |
by NineInchNachos on 3/31/2011 @ 1:18pm | Yeah and Hans Zeiger says baptists aren't real Christians. give it a rest grandpa mofo... times they are a changing |
by Mofo from the Hood on 3/31/2011 @ 1:35pm | One thing that hasn't changed with time is the certainty that many contemporary politicians and general citizens are trapped in cultural lag. Laurie Jinkins and others are conducting their lives according to ideas that were popular decades, if not centuries ago.
No learned mind ever believed that humanity was pushing toward homosexual atheism. That's a logical impossibility. |
