Stand Your Ground Senator Pam Roach!

Lousy GOP Budget Vote Isn't Free, But at What Cost?

Working this 'stand your ground' nonsense out of my system. Feeling better every time I draw... hey another STATE LEVEL Tacomic!  Owe it all to my close personal friend Peter Callaghan at the Snooze Tribune for writing this article, which got me thinking about this old flowers article... then a bunch of old Tacomics.  Senator Roach is one of those people you read about in the paper and you just start really disliking 'em.  Like old man Washam, people openly speculate about her sanity. I ask you, is this the blog of a sane person?  As my comrade Paul Shrag points out on facebook You see how quickly she wraps herself around the Cox tragedy...  Where is she for the Bales family?

Fredo! I seen you in the TNT threads telling poor Mr. Hoover to man up, but I think this cartoon illustrates the true perils he faces.  You can't let your guard down/turn your back on crazy.  No wonder he's having heart attacks!

Everybody has had a disagreeable co-worker at some point in their lives. Most people just blow it off or find some reason to avoid the disagreeable person whenever possible. I'm not sure that people who encounter such a disagreeable person should be awarded millions of dollars because it raised their level of discomfort.

Well, I agree and disagree with that, Fredo.  She's an elected official so can't just be fired by upper management for being all cray cray.  We don't know exactly how bad things got between them, but I do wish the 31st district would wake up and start taking their democracy a bit more seriously.  The best they could come up with after the last primary was an opponent who "made her look brilliant," according to the Seattle Times.

Hoover took the job knowing that the people he would be working with were not employees who had been vetted during the hiring process but rather elected officials who could be (and probably would be)  prone to volitile dispositions.  He got exactly what he bargained for.

I don't see any big problem with Roachs behavior.  Women are always faulted if they display this sort of passion while men aren't. Hoover needs to grow up. If he wants to practice law where the participants are more inclined to moderate behavior perhaps he could try estate planning or copyright law.

by NineInchNachos on 4/10/2012 @ 11:53am
if Hoover wants to work with sane public servants, maybe he should switch sides?

This is another one of my patented Tales From Fredopia™

I'd like to introduce you to Raina Anderson. She's an upstanding young woman who works hard and does everything right. She works at Fredozone Auto Parts.

She is however constantly being harassed by her manager. You see, he's an old fart who has been in the industry far too long. He actually should have retired half a decade ago and let the younger workers move up the ladder. But his poor financial decisions really are just background noise to this tale.

Anyway, back on task. She is getting really tired of the verbally but fortunately not physically abusive behavior of her manager. He yells and screams at her constantly. If she makes the slightest mistake, she is subject to an hour-long verbal assault. When things are right and no one made any mistakes for the day, he still acts unstable and mutters unintelligibly about tie rods and axle boots.

One warm day in September, the old man completely wigs out and throws a frightening tantrum. The customers get scared and run out. The employees hide in the restroom as he throws wrenches and spark plugs at the windows. In his insanity-fueled rage, he even knocks over a 454 big block on a decorative display near the door.

Raina and her co-workers complain to the district manager. He promptly suspends the old man for a week.

...but then he's back. And just as bat-shit insane as ever. Raina again complains to the DM about an unsafe workplace. He looks her square in the eyes and says:
"He was crazy when you took the job. You knew this going in. If you don't like it, quit"
"Are you serious?" she asks. "He's threatening everyone who works there. The customers all left! They are scared to come in."
"I said it's your problem, and I stand by it. Suck it up and take it like a man or find another job."
"I'm not a man and there are no other auto part stores. Fredozone is the only one in town."
"Tough. Now get back to work."

Understandably upset but determined, Raina found a lawyer who specializes in employment laws. She throughly explains the problem, sneaks him footage from the in-store CCTV system and audio she recorded on her phone from her conversations with the DM. The lawyer looks over the evidence.

"Well, I've looked over the materials, Ms Anderson" he says. "You have no case here. The old man was clearly insane from the start and you willingly took the job. Stop being such a passionate broad and get yourself another job or deal with it like we all do. You'll get my bill in a week."
"Bill?!" she asks. "Your ad in the paper said the consultation was free."
"Yeah, I decided to charge you before you walked in. You willingly took my council, so you'll pay the bill. Now get out and get back to work."

Your analogy is a little off.

An elected legislator and an attorney with 3 years post graduate education are of reasonably equal stature. A retail store manager and a retail sales clerk are of unequal stature. The clerk is a subordinant of the manager. The caucus attorney is not a subordinant of the legislator.  In your hypothetical the clerk "does everything right." We don't know if Hoover, the attorney, did everything right or not. I've know attorneys who were jerks and I don't see anything wrong with unleashing a good old verbal assault on them. Not worth $1.75M in my opinion.

hey i'm not the one who kicked her ass out of the GOP caucus in the first place, just sayin.

Pam Roach is weird but why shouldn't she be pandered to by political parties, that's politics. It's just funny the people of her district aren't embarrassed to vote for her?

by fredo on 4/10/2012 @ 10:32pm
good point cissero

2010 Election Pam Roach=27,000 votes (66%).

Hey, that's a higher percentage than either Barack Obama or Christine Gregoire got in 2008! Hoover of course wasn't running for anything so we don't know how many votes he might have gotten. Maybe he just wanted a safe government job where no one shouted at him and where he was free to move flower arrangements about.

by NineInchNachos on 4/10/2012 @ 10:39pm
perhaps Bonney Lake area has the highest concentration of douche bags on the face of the Earth?   You've all seen Roach's  challengers...  I mean holy cow.   Cutting those people out of the Pierce Transit Area was a GOOD move.

Senate Democratic leader Ed Murray says leaders of the new Majority
Coalition caucus are “obsessed” with finding out who leaked a
preliminary report into more alleged mistreatment of staff by Senator
Roach. Murray says it reminds him of Nixon’s plumbers. “I believe
that obsession -- trying to plug leaks -- has a chilling effect on
employees who may want to bring complaints against any of us.” Deputy Republican leader Don Benton responds that the leak of the Roach report was illegal and politically motivated. “We want to protect not only employees of the Senate, but we want to protect members against erroneous accusations.”
