You can't blame the city council can you? After all they just react to information spoon fed to them by the City Manager right? Mentats are supposed to be trustworthy, you can't break the imperial conditioning! Even so, These are idea people. We'll be fine. Unlike the spam-ravaged TNT, I personally am an optimist. Yeah a few people might feel a slight pinch of the needle going in... but you know, they'll be in a better place. Everybody gets a year's paid salary and last minute raise like our beloved/departed city manager Eric Anderson who we shall never forget. You know Tacoma has Got a ton of amazing crap. Our differences are our diamonds and we have more city owned diamond parking lots than we know what to do with--more parking lots than ANYONE knows what to do with! Just gotta market it better. Get Creative! Like Mr. Rob McNail-Huff here (pictured above)!

Brilliant comparison of the Tacoma City council to characters in the Wizard of Oz. The only real difference is that the Wizard of Oz had a happy ending. |
by JesseHillFan on 11/15/2011 @ 6:20am | There is a happy ending in this story too.Eric Anderson and his $$$$$.

I wanna see! and the Volume 002 readers of the future want to see! @captain went to library this weekend, Max likes the comic books in the teen section. He found batman and I found a H.P. Lovecraft comic book collection. Lots of astral projecting into the void in those stories... Tacomic gold! |

Maybe if he explored a little past Pierce County or Washington state, he might get that Tacoma is actually cooler than most. But I guess hiding behind a comic is easier than actually doing something? But in all fairness, we can overlook look these minor issues. He certainly wouldn't go about calling everybody racist- he would just shoot them with his Walther PPK, instead. Think globally! by NineInchNachos on 1/9/2012 @ 8:48am | VIA NEW TAKHOMAN... www.thenewtakhoman.com/ On the city’s projected $31 million general fund deficit short fall With a projected $31 million budget short fall in the City of Tacoma’s general fund, as of last Friday an estimated $14 million in savings have been realized according to city Finance Director Bob Biles. Interim City Manager Rey Arellano’s goal was to attain a 75% or $23 million reduction. Despite layoffs, retirements and shifting general fund employees to other fund jobs this still leaves the city $9 million short of the City Manger’s goal. If rumors prove to be true Tacoma Police Union #6 is currently willing to give up their 3.6 % negotiated wage increase and their 1% COLA to save their brothers and sisters jobs to avoid a Camden, New Jersey spike in crime. How much this would save the general fund is currently unknown. However, there are other department heads who appear to be card carrying members of the “ME” generation. Case in point: Linda Villegas Bremer, Human Rights and Human Services (HRHS) Director, spent $13,829.91 of general fund monies to have her office remodeled, including a custom made desk and book cases. Who authorized the expenditure? She did. According to city spokesman Rob McNair-Huff department heads have a set amount of discretionary spending to blow through without city council or city manager approval or oversight. As an example he said he could spend up to $15,000 for a sundry list of things, but hasn’t. Also according to McNair-Huff the Bremer office remodel was planned last summer and was executed in November just after the general fund budget crisis was revealed. Could that $13,000 been spent on social services we asked former Councilmember Spiro Manthou. His reply, probably, but not without a morass of bureaucratic mastication. This only indicates that Bremer was aware of the general fund budget crisis when our elected council wasn’t. To make matters worse Bremer also spent $537 on 25 self help books entitled "Strengths Finder" for her staff on October 25, 2011 from Amazon.com in anticipation of general fund layoffs. Further muddying the waters this same department head charged the City of Tacoma one mile in expenses to travel from the Tacoma Municipal Building to the Hob Nob restaurant for lunch. Records obtained by The New Takhoman do not indicate the purpose of the lunch. In doing so Bremer got a lousy 50 cents stuffed in her back pocket which costs the city considerably more than that in accounting costs. Bremer’s expense records also show she traveled from the Tacoma Muni Building to Seattle for a meeting and then back to Olympia and charged the city for the full mileage. She lived in Olympia at the time. Now city employees are allowed to charge mileage from home to work? This isn’t the worst of the charges that have been flung against Bremer. In a written letter to The New Takhoman she has also been charged with treating her staff worse than Pierce County Assessor Dale Washam and having hired an assistant to preform her city paid duties while she attends more than 36 meetings a month. If and it’s a big if, is the entire City of Tacoma being run under the HRHS Director’s “ME” generation mind set? And that brings into question how many other city departments are being run under the same Stalin-Beria based scenario? It’s time the entire City Council grew some chest hairs and performed the functions they were elected to do. |

by cisserosmiley on 4/3/2012 @ 8:43am | We need this guy to stay on the council and fix what this guy allowed to occur while this guy was on the council. Don't send a guy who was on the council as the problem occurred to Olympia, it's illogical. |
