Hilltop Crips vs. Tacoma Safe and Clean

With Special Mockery of Worthless Seattle Security Guards

THE TACOMIC - Hilltop Crips vs. Tacoma Safe and Clean (tacoma, hilltop, gangs, crime, sweep, arrests, crips, safe and clean)

I know it is always boring to compare Tacoma to Seattle; however, these are special circumstances. While Seattle rent-a-cops are content to stand around while a fallen young lady gets kicked in the face a bunch of times (not everyone can be a hero like our own Michel Pierce); Tacoma real-cops are busy busting one of the oldest and most feared gangs--the Hilltop Crips.  This is a bold move for Tacoma's Safe-and-Clean/Reduce-crime-by-50% mandate and reactions on Hilltop (aka Upper Tacoma) are mixed.  Some reactions are just plain astonishing.  We'll see how it plays out in court, but I know some moms who are relieved to have these guys off the street.

I am so glad I live in Tacoma where it is safe. I feel so scared every time I drive to Everet and need to go past Sea-town.

Everybody I talk to feels the same way. Seattle "just stay away"

RR - Great job on this Tacomic.

I hope Mr Lindquist and Co. aren't finished. As far as I'm concerned, they can put the east side and So. Tac. gangs in jail alongside this bunch. Assuming these dirtbags are found to be guilty, of course. Gangs are a blight on our fair city. We need to serve notice that Tacoma is not a safe place to be a gang banger.

If we get these gangs in jail, our crime statistics will go down. Then the Seattle based and obviously biased media will have a harder time disparaging T-Town. When they report crime in Seattle, they rarely mention Seattle, but instead they list the neighborhood, i.e. Rainier Valley, Capitol Hill, Greenwood, etc. They certainly don't want to get the fine folk in Magnolia upset about crime in Seattle. It must have been tough on them since this recent beating happened in a facility named the "Seattle Bus Tunnel". These same news organizations, when reporting crime in the Pierce County always seem to work in the fact that Tacoma is in Pierce County, and the although the crime occured in Pierce County, and may not be associated with Tacoma, Tacoma is in Pierce County.

by Jake on 2/17/2010 @ 8:59am
It would be nice if the Tacoma media actually reported Tacoma's drop in crime. There was a pretty good drop in 2009 and the only report the TNT did was drop in homicides which isn't really an indication of crime overall. Crime was down in almost every category in Tacoma, many by double digits. Seattle had increases in almost every category, many with double digit increases. Seattle also has a very high aggravated assault rate when compared to Tacoma.

Aggravated Assault: attack by one person upon another for the purpose of inflicting severe or aggravate bodily injury, usually accompanied by the use of a weapon or by the means likely to produce death or great bodily harm.

This is the aggravated assaults for 2009 through November:
Seattle: 1825 (+17%)
Tacoma: 394 (-12%)
Seattle is 3 times the population as Tacoma so do the math.

by NineInchNachos on 2/17/2010 @ 9:25am
Tacoma 1, my contacts on the east side say all the gangs are terrified that they'll be next. Let's hope so!

by NineInchNachos on 2/17/2010 @ 9:36am
new gang activity in Seattle:

"Police are asking the public for tips that may help them identity a half-dozen young men who assaulted two people and broke windows in a car in Seattle's Capitol Hill neighborhood.

A man walking alone late Saturday night was knocked down and suffered head injuries when they tried to take his backpack. A short time later, early Sunday morning, a woman getting out of her car was hit on the head, leaving a bloody cut. Witnesses say the same group wearing dark coats with hoods broke out the windows of a parked car."

by NineInchNachos on 2/17/2010 @ 9:55am
a seattle cartoon on same topic (sorta)

by Altered Chords on 2/17/2010 @ 10:35am
The Seattle cartoons are not even funny. Seattle sucks.

Is looking for 1/2 dozen young men wearing dark coats and hoods considered "profiling".

We should also look for groups of 3 to 4 women in their 80s wearing gray coats and tan hats so that no one is offended or falsely targeted.

by fredo on 2/17/2010 @ 11:06am
chords, right. RR's contribution was much funnier. Not only does Tacoma feature lower crime and better policing, we also have better cartoonists!

Prostitution is such a crime in Tacoma, the prostitutes are 20 feet taller than the cars.

by Altered Chords on 2/17/2010 @ 2:31pm
Apparently Tacoma is targeting johns that drive "smart" cars or golf carts.

Thank god we have tireless public servants like Wendell Brown who aren't afraid to pursue prostitution whenever it pops its head up.

Umm, didn't the Wendell Brown thing happen in, like, 1990 or something? Fredo, you need some new material.

And besides, there aren't any prostitutes in Tacoma. At least not on the streets. And no, SOAP didn't clean up the streets; Craig Newmark did.

by NineInchNachos on 2/17/2010 @ 3:12pm
can somebody splain the wendell brown thing?

by panachronic on 2/17/2010 @ 3:25pm
Wendell Brown was a Pierce County Councilman who got caught up in a prostitution sting, a lonnnnnggggggg time ago.

by KevinFreitas on 2/18/2010 @ 7:40am
@panachronic: when the weather is better there are easily a handful of prostitutes I notice getting in and/or out of vehicles around the 25th and Pacific on my way to/from work. It's truly a sad sight but it does exist there and I'm sure elsewhere about town. I'm definitely in favor of punishing johns!

by greenfringegarden on 2/18/2010 @ 1:03pm
Great cartoon...I agree with the cleanup efforts and hope it continues full force. While I know that some community members see this situation in terms of race instead of safety and security... there is the fact that all Americans deserve to live in safe secure neighborhoods.....these gangsters are not stealing and committing violent crimes to pay for food and baby diapers...bad apples come in all colors...and we could easily argue the gangsters at the top of the heap have been those white dudes in the white house of recent years. They all need to go...and face jail time as far as we are concerned.

Just to let the Tacoma folks know a former Seattle resident...I never heard negative press about Tacoma, or had negative attitudes about T-Town...we love both cities and the folks therein...the longer we are here the more laid back we get...good work all.

by Altered Chords on 2/18/2010 @ 1:14pm
GFG - are you suggesting that the white people in Washington DC are gangsters but the black, asian and hispanic people are not?

Are you also suggesting that gang activities are OK if the money derived therefrom is used for baby diapers and food?

Bad apples do come in both red and green. We all know it's not easy being green. Thank goodness we have red apples telling everyone that the green ones are good too - unless they are bad. Then it's up to the fruit flies to take care of them.

by NineInchNachos on 2/18/2010 @ 1:29pm
if the gangs were stealing to feed babies it would make a better made for TV movie. Just sayin'

To AC and All: No...I was trying to say that gangsters come in all shapes and colors and income levels and levels of society. My son showed me pictures of his 6th Grade University Place Camp on a Facebook account where his counselor...a Curtis High School Student was flipping gang signs. This kid supposedly the "best of the best" last year encouraged his "campers" to dress up in gang wear and flip signs...some of the kids like my son refused and were roughed up for it. Needless to say I wish I had the $150.00 back for this "positive camp experience, that teaches kids to get out of their comfort zones."

We need ways for everyone to "affiliate" more positively and this includes our thoughts on American marketing.

Despite suggestions that the small demonstration represents “the black community,” there’s no evidence that it reflects the views of a majority or even a large minority of Tacoma’s African Americans. But many blacks do have concerns about the racial dimensions of the case – some simply because they know the public is seeing the faces of so many black suspects associated with a single violent enterprise.

volcano really captures the scene at the recent city council meeting...

"Electing one person to office can't eliminate 300-400 years of racism," says Pastor Banks. "It's going to take people making some sacrifices and getting to know people and trusting them. It's not a quick fix. Just when you think you're making the necessary progress, the devil will throw you a curve and let you know that it's not over yet."

the year 2004/2005 21 African-American owned businesses, non-profits,
mosques, etc were pushed-out of their buildings. This is the year the
city bought a majority of the buildings on M.L.K. They and the rest of
the building-owners upped rent so much
that none of these establishements could stay. Then the
city/builfing-owners hope something like Starbucks will come here - that
never happened. So now the city/owners rent to a new round of mostly
white-businesses. Here's 1 example to show how it worked. There was a
place called the Afrikan Market Place, run by Endugu Henderson. He paid
$600 a month in rent. When the city bought up the block, his landlord
upped the rent to $2,500.00 in one months notice. Obvious Henderson had
to leave. The building sat empty. Even though I know for a fact there
were a number of people who wanted to lease it and run businesses out of
there. These folks were African-American. They were not leased the
address. Then the owners of the building rented it to 2nd
Cycle/Spaceworks for $1 a month to move in. Now 2nd Cycle pays $500
something a month in rent. I have not problem with 2nd Cycle and the
awesome people who run it. I just want folks reading this to understand
that black-businesses were pushed-out and white-owned businesses have
mostly replaced them. If you someone does not believe I will reply and
list the 21 businesses/nonp-profits/mosques etc.

Josh Rizeberg · 64 mutual friendsNo
conspiracy Mr. RR Anderson, here's yo list,
Not all these businesses were
pushed-out. Perhaps some closed or moved on their own free-willl; but
some of these places definitely went through exactly what I described
above. Here are the places: There was a black-owned martial-arts/boxing
gym, the M.L.K. Development Association, The Tacoma Facts, there were 2
mosques, the Afrikan Mark Matthewset
Place, a Womens-spa, One-Famm Music
label/record-store/recording-studio, Dalton Gittens had an office on The
Hill, there was a D.V.D./tape/lp store, Browns, Donaldson's
Health-Clinic, Dr. Johnson's office, The Big-Homie Program, Fridays
Cookies, Rhinelanderd, 23rd St. Tavern, The Bluebird, The Office Tavern,
Paulson's, & Harold Meyers!

Well I have been lately aging having a problem with juvenile vandalism/threats thug culture issues in the past two days (Sat April 20 & Sunday April 21st).This time the police actually came out and one of them saw my webcam videos (he was impressed by the high resolution image quality of the suspects and especially the low light night time capture but the Saturday incident happened while it was still daylight) so they told me that they are actively working on it.I apparently have not been the only victim (I have spent $700 on shutters on my windows though the rocks thrown chip away the paint on my house and likely eventually could destroy my new roof). These teenage vandals on bikes show no respect towards others or property however If I eventually discern their identities from a successful apprehension I will file a lawsuit against their parents (for malicious harassment and stalking by their kids). The low lifes-have nots have unfortunately moved into my neighborhood.Yeah I have had burglary threats as well as obscenities from them too.If they break into my house I will without hesitation exercise the no duty to retreat option if there is a break in-threat and there might be some seats empty in the Tacoma Public School district if that transpires. The police officers have told me that I can defend myself if that happens.I did discover the location-residence (renters) of some of the younger vandal kids though  that had been giving me problems earlier so the TPD officer said that he would go to their residence and deal with their parents.
