Is that Jake Fey sitting at the booth? I'm happy to see our city council rallying around the important issue of freedom of choice in medical services...can we start the "legalize it for recreational use campaign!"

Today's TACOMIC.

pretend there is this MMJ patient (who just so happens to be a veteran and thus HERO!) that was confused by the intent of an event called 'fill the bowl'

also we see that Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist would rather hide, and is annoyed by, good people caught in a legal limbo. Pierce County continues to raid/close MMJ dispensaries while KING County takes the more progressive route.

Eek, sorry you had to spell it out for me. It's the part about Pierce county raiding and closing MMJ dispenseries that I was missing here. Thanks RR!

In school we had to diagram sentences on the black board, sometimes RxR has to do that with the cartoons.

I maintain that I left this cartoon vague and confusing on purpose... lots of legal gray area... call your legislatures!

nice work! maybe you should do a comic on the magic marijuana fairy that law enforcement believes all medical marijuana patients get their cannabis from..
i still haven't seen her, but if you do, there's plenty of patients in Tacoma that could use a visit..

How is this for confusing? from boingboing:

www.boingboing.net/2010/09/15/no-accepte...

"The U.S. government classifies marijuana—along with heroin and LSD—as a Schedule I drug, the most tightly restricted category of drugs in the United States. According to the federal government, Schedule I drugs are unsafe and have "no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States."

Really?

As medical marijuana proponents have pointed out since the Controlled Substances Act was passed by Congress in 1970, cannabis has been used medicinally for thousands of years, and there has never been a reported case of a marijuana overdose. Moreover, in recent years clinical researchers around the world have demonstrated the medicinal value of cannabis.

We talked to a doctor, a pharmacist, and a patient to get three firsthand perspectives on medical cannabis. Special thanks to Dr. Donald Abrams, JoAnna LaForce and Don Grubbs."

I think what Fredo is trying to ask is: "What does any of this have to do with a Food Drive in conjunction with the celebration of the Stadium Bowl's centenary?"

by NineInchNachos
on 9/16/2010 @ 10:18am

As I understand it 'bowl' has special meaning in the hippie-stoner community

Yes, but the subject diversion to "marijuana" derails any conversation thread for the planned celebration of the100th anniversary of the Stadium Bowl.

(It's not a Toilet Bowl, either.)

Perhaps this would have been a good place to call for the restoration of the seating that was lost in the landslide in the early 1980's? (I think that is when it happened). The playfield was repaired, but the seating at the apex of the bowl was never replaced.

by NineInchNachos
on 9/16/2010 @ 11:36am
Ah was wondering what was up with the big 'green space' and reading descriptions of 'the existing seating'

Also I take great faux offense that my drawings would derail any conversation. if there is any derailments, I am just as much a victim!

by NineInchNachos
on 9/16/2010 @ 11:44am
maybe david horsey is correct (see blog.seattlepi.com/davidhorsey/archives/...) Maybe the yipping Chihuahua Tacomic enterprise has laid a big stinky fart-aroma over the majestic flying buttresses of our 100 year stadium bowl

by The Jinxmedic
on 9/16/2010 @ 11:59am
Ah, playing the "victim card" I see. Alas, I have no suitable counter to the "victim card", as only an unplayable "race card" remains in my hand. You win, sir.

this in from an ANONYMOUS TIPSTER via facebook:

Subject: tacoma shutting down ALL dispensaries

just got news that cease and desist orders were issued to all cannabis dispensaries in Tacoma, sent on oct. 14..
sad sad misguided folks, and now plenty of people with nowhere to find their medication. hey, at least we still have the tacoma hempfest (for now)

by jenyum

There was a petition circulating for a while (from medical marijuana proponents) asking for a moratorium on medical marijuana in Tacoma until the laws get sorted out. At least this time around nobody got raided. (They didn't, did they?)

There is a call going out via Facebook for people to attend Tuesday night's city council meeting and speak on this issue.

The Volcano is providing the only real coverage of this in the local press.

www.weeklyvolcano.com/entertainment/spew...

I don't know if it's because the TNT requires drug testing of all of its employees or what, but every time they deal with the issue (editorially, anyway) there seems to be a decided lack of maturity. I particularly enjoy reading about "intractable pain" like it's say, "The Easter Bunny."

If you've ever had to watch a family member in the final throes of a painful disease, you know that pain management is just a hilarious topic. Also, it's completely reasonable to expect caregivers (who are often themselves frail and elderly) to put their homes at risk and take up hydroponic gardening in their spare time. No need for a more nuanced take on the issue.

THIS IS AN ALARM CALL:

tacomagawker.blogspot.com/2010/10/why-i-...

"Today there will be a mass gathering at the city council meeting to protest the closing of all medicinal marijuana dispensaries. Never mind that there are fifteen registered sex offenders living with a half mile of my house. Never mind that meth has long been Tacoma's biggest problem. Our cat Max was rescued during a SWAT team raid on a meth lab house near Tacoma. Max has issues that are difficult to explain, you'd have to live with him to fully understand. "

The people wishing to testify are beginning to assemble at the Municipal Building. I'm putting up a live feed to monitor things. Just click on the link below.

hint #1 even though i myself never behave in a biased manner based on dress, speach, etc. many people do and i implore all who will testify to respect that process and wear clean clothes and comb your hair, use polite language and address the council with respect.

by NineInchNachos

My advice: personal stories of suffering go far with this council. Also, it may sound bad, but it helps if you cry.

now that the state is "demanding" their B&O tax from mj dispensaries...does that make it legal? like if you charged a fee for a "serial killer license" would it be legal to kill?
