fun drawing RR. The new 9.95 /month price point does seem a bit pricey. I dunno.

I'm not sure how the TNT readers are getting "more choices."
Today they can

1. enjoy free digital news
2. pay for digital edition
3. pay for print edition

In the future they will have the choice of
1. pay for digital edition
2. pay for print edition

That seems like LESS choices.

by NineInchNachos on 12/4/2012 @ 9:33am
seems like less eyeballs for those annoying flash-based fold-overs, top banner big reveal scrolldowns, and video auto-start pop-under ads.

by fredo on 12/4/2012 @ 9:38am
right RR. nothing starts my day better than a big pop up ad for prepaid cremations.

ultimate holiday gift!!!

The double-dip on print subscribers gets me. I already pay for the news in print, I'm not going to pay again so that the same information is available to me online especially when there are innumerable sources of news online that aren't going to require a recurring bill on my credit card, notably the Times & P-I. If the TNT made a point of announcing that they will renounce and forswear all invasive badvertising from their site I would consider it on principle (let's move the internet away from an ad-based economy to a value base, where people get what they pay for) but I'm not getting the feeling that is their plan.

by Cheechmo on 12/4/2012 @ 12:06pm
I have a feeling that they're just trying to fleece whatever customers are left while they still can, and then fold shortly thereafter. Take the money and run, if you will. They must have hired some pricey consultants to come up with this plan.

by NineInchNachos on 12/4/2012 @ 12:10pm
seasons fleecings?

by fredo on 12/4/2012 @ 12:28pm
A year ago everyone here was bad mouthing Walmart because they sell so much chinese made stuff.

But now that you have a chance to pay for digital content MADE IN THE USA you're all badmouthing the tribune.

Which is it?

Do you want stuff made in the US or don't you?

by Cheechmo on 12/4/2012 @ 12:45pm
RR: I like that one. I may use it IRL if you don't mind.

Fredo: TNT doesn't make stuff, they just regurgitate stuff.

by NineInchNachos on 12/4/2012 @ 12:54pm

Tacomic will be inserting a paywall soon using the honor system and a paypal button.

by chairkicker on 12/6/2012 @ 10:22am
The nice thing about this is that -- after TNT ends their experiment in 2 years and/or when McClatchy closes the paper entirely -- you're primed for the Kool-Aid Man Tacomic followup.

by NineInchNachos on 12/10/2012 @ 3:45pm
testing testing  honor system pay-as-you-can paywall service. (see banner above and below cartoon!)

the popup covers the article, you can still read it in the gray out area...  but if you close the pop up you're booted to the homepage.

Heh. Love the Dale Washam sign-up. Also: "$99.5"!? Have we no respect for decimal precision conventions for dollar amounts?

by NineInchNachos on 12/17/2012 @ 9:14am
think of it as an investment.  you're a stockholder in a community journalizims

One minute the liberals are bashing consumers for not buying locally made products and then when given the opportunity to buy locally written news content they bash that opportunity too.
I guess they enjoy engaging in a tag team hatefest.

by NineInchNachos on 12/17/2012 @ 9:49am
can't you tell the difference between hate and celebration?

by fredo on 12/17/2012 @ 9:57am
your cartoon seems to be less about celebration and more about hate.

by cisserosmiley on 12/17/2012 @ 10:25am
I don't hate the TNT, but I feel mcclatchy is an extremely shady stock corporation. One time, 3 directors & an officer took millions in stock sale proceeds on the evening before mcclatchy stock started a 90% price drop. Those guys(& one lady) were so lucky to have dumped their stock...probably not insider trading at all.

by fredo on 12/17/2012 @ 10:32am
Fair enough.

What do you say that someone publish a list here and now of all the wonderful American Companies which provide an American made product and where the executives, the investors, and the common working staff people are all paid the same so that we may know which businesses we should support through our consumer dollars?

I'm waiting for that list.

by cisserosmiley on 12/17/2012 @ 10:48am
Why? The cartoon is about mcclatchy's Tacoma operation charging more for services. Maybe tomorrow someone will draw a cartoon about a guy in Tacoma who spouts about lists of honest investors instead of topically discussing the current issue.

by fredo on 12/17/2012 @ 10:52am
The cartoon is about the artists objection to paying for a locally created product.I'm asking for list of locally created products that would suit his needs and that would tend to be created in an environment where everyone was paid the same.

by NineInchNachos on 12/17/2012 @ 11:09am
artist here saying that  I do not object at all.  just making funny observations
