Inspired today by the dithering opinions of The Jinxmedic, cartographical stints by Stowe, and, of course, by the great response of Israeli cartoonists to an Iranian Newspaper's call for entries in an antisemitic cartoon contest--the Israeli cartoonists famously making the argument that "We'll show the world we can do the best, sharpest, most offensive Jew hating cartoons ever published!"--I, RR Anderson of Tacoma, have answered the call of Seattle art critic JEN GRAVES in her quest to complete a bucket list of all the insanely horrible things with connections to our CITY OF DESTINY.  "Hubris!" You may be ejaculating quietly to yourself. Perhaps. Am I missing Anything?

Two things, dear Sir:

1) It's not the "undying lands", it's the "undead lands".

2) Walbert in the Narrows... BRILLIANT!

The AFB is spelled "McChord."

This cartoon is not helping things. If you selectively cite examples from any town's history, you can paint any picture you want. Perhaps Tacoma's biggest problem is that people are used to emphasizing the negative about it -- much more so than in towns that aren't used as whipping boys by the regional media. Similarly bad things happen elsewhere regionally and nationally but are merely seen as "bad things" rather than the essence of a place's character.

dang, thanks for spotting the typo!

yeah I think this cartoon tries to illustrate your point about focusing on all the bad things... kinda like the junk science behind the Bermuda triangle myth.

Yeah. Jan's full of it. The shooting happened in Lakewood and he ended up in Seattle. That's doesn't stop here though from tying to pin the incident as being in Tacoma.

I keep saying we need a for-real propaganda & marketing team.
Forget "catchy" slogans, we need for real propaganda in our favor at the expense of other cities. Paint a huge target in the middle of the 206 and have at it.

Thanks for clearing that up, RR. I'm a little slow this morning.

x3 bridges? I think the one under 250 of water doesn't count anymore

Seattle's one to talk. Glass houses and throwing bricks and all that. But then again, they seem to be proud of violence and acts against law enforcement (see: last month's police offficer slaying, 10th anniversary of global trade conference riots, Rodney King riots, Northgate and Southcenter Mall attacks, etc.).

But in day to day legislation, they have problems there, too. Remember the now-approved Alaska Way tunnel fiasco? Billions and Billions of dollars (insert Carl Sagan voiceover), for a tunnel that will carry fewer vehicles than the existing viaduct does today, with no possibility of expansion, or even escape in an emergency- like a vehicle fire or earthquake...

If it wasn't for the fact that all of the citizens of WA will have to pay for this billion-dollar-boondoggle, I'd be laughing.

As a former Seattleite, I can honestly say that their arrogance knows no bounds.

I know you weren't trying to be geographically accurate, but how do you get SeaTac on the East site of I5?

Also, the "bridge to nowhere" reference obviously shows you haven't spent much time on the Olympic Peninsula. Kitsap County has a higher average income than Pierce County does. And you'd be hard-pressed to find a place more beautiful than some of the ports and locales around Jefferson County.

Of course Kitsap Co has a higher income. The county has 3 people making $100K and 4 people making $50K. Averages out to be $71K.

@keeper

things are very mysterious in the VORTEX! mu ha ha !

and yes, the 'bridge to nowhere' is an unfortunate meme.

Every bridge goes somewhere.

It does seem that the sidewalks from the Broadway LID are much more attractive to the dogs. I've never seen so much dog crap on the sidewalks in my entire life. I'm talking a serious mine field here.

@Crenshaw, @fredo: If TAGRO supplies ever run short perhaps a new product could be collected right off those pretty new sidewalks -- DOGRO!!! ;)
