|Marcus is a cool guy. He worked as auctioneer for Ms. Darcy's preschool fundraiser events... and even married the owner of Comic Book Ink to his present wife (my ex-roommates best friend!)|

|Lauren Walker is a very nice person and probably capable in many ways. However, people need to recognize when some personal issue is affecting their public life, especially when they serve in an elected capacity. It's better for Lauren to take some time off or recuse herself from further decision making at city hall while she gets her affairs in order.|

|That movie is unnerving and challenging, much like Walker's situation. Good cartoon, and nice to see genuine empathy.|

|even a Waiting for Godot tree!|
Fredo, "I can't go on, I'll go on" ever hear that expression? No? you need more art, drama and culture in your life.
by fredo on 3/1/2011 @ 8:49am
|I thought your drawing was fine, I didn't get all the references but I am kind of a hick.
Don't know why the fulfillment of a social contract between a husband and wife would be surprising to people. You need more real world experience in your life.

|I have to agree with Fredo, the newly renamed Hilltop Business Association hasn't seen Council Member Walker in nearly a year and as the Hilltops council person I find that a little unacceptable. At the very least there should have been some effort to ask another elected official to fill in during her absence. Not to be insensitive but the city's business still needs to be conducted and if there is time to be deputy mayor surely there could have been a few minutes to ask one of our at large council members to fill in.|

|No more UTBA.. we just got a new domain name Hilltopbusinessdistrict.com and will be getting a new webpage and making a fb page shortly. There is still some work to do, like possibly going to council to get a resolution to abolish Upper Tacoma completely, and be on the look out for new Hilltop Business District banners down MLK. not sure who the hilltoptacoma.com is.|

|Lauren Walker seems like a super duper nice person. I think it's fine she showed emotion. Does the Trib expect everyone to act like robots?|
by NineInchNachos on 3/1/2011 @ 10:28am
|the Tacomic will support any effort to abolish the snooty 'upper tacoma' meme|
by fredo on 3/1/2011 @ 10:29am
|Yes, it's OK to show emotion. But to ask fellow councilmen to truncate a discussion of a spending decision because it hurts your feelings is a thinly veiled form of bullying. I'll bet someone is very adept at using tears to get their way.|
by NineInchNachos on 3/1/2011 @ 10:44am
|hmm. maybe I need to do a civility Tacomic.

|This article is an example why commenters have little right to bitch about decisions made, taxes, or gov't as we very often don't know the whole story. Know that our comments are based out of what is PUBLICLY known about the subject at hand and therefore may not even be relevant.|

|Well here are some characteristics of bullying. If the shoe fits, wear it.
"Often bullying takes place in the presence of a large group of relatively uninvolved bystanders. In many cases, it is the bully's ability to create the illusion that he or she has the support of the majority present, that instills the fear of 'speaking out' in protestation of the bullying activities being observed by the group. Unless the 'bully mentality' is effectively challenged in any given group in its earlier stages, often the 'bully mentality' becomes an accepted norm within the group."
by NineInchNachos on 3/1/2011 @ 11:56am
|yes commentators in the TNT threads are text-book bullies.|
by fredo on 3/1/2011 @ 11:57am
|easier to turn off a bullying message you're reading on line than it is to turn off a bullying message you're recieving while you're attending a required meeting.|

|"It asks all Americans to commit to making this a more civil society, one in which people across the political spectrum can engage in intelligent debate" US Conference of Mayors Civility Accord.
OK for Mayor Strickland to endorse the accord as long as she isn't required to demand it.
by NineInchNachos on 3/1/2011 @ 12:10pm
|Are you suggesting the mayor is not an "all Americans" ?
Have you no decency?
by fredo on 3/1/2011 @ 2:27pm
|Walker and Manthou tried to shame their fellow councilmembers into silence, even though the Mayors Civility Accord advises mayors to encourage intelligent debate.
The mayor should have called out both Walker and Manthou, even tabling debate until the following council meeting. Instead she allowed bullies to take control of the meeting. Time and time again the mayor is unable to pull the trigger on her imaginary leadership abilities.
