Dear friends,

For anybody who has been the victim of a friendly fire attack from one of these newfangled flying machines I recommend this book by tacoma's own Mr. Jeff Becker..

www.speaktotheheart.org/

It sure helped me out of a few pickles.

The first Tacomic to appear in glorious 'smudge-o-vision' which helped create the smog of jet-A fuel exhaust and pay tribute to one of the great anti-war artists... mr. Goya

@dawn - kevin takes good pics!

Unless things have changed recently, the promotion and sales of weapons drives the world economy. It even tops narcotics trafficking.

Like I need to tell you about conspiracies. The world is structured to beat people down.

Devo also said, "When a problem comes around, you must whip it."

Same as it ever was. Same as it ever was.

Very strong political cartoon RR. Great show of contrast without straining to do so.

Some kind of "abandonment" sign on the Elks may have added something too.

by NineInchNachos

Elks is one giant abandonment metaphor in itself

@mofo, you're taking a page right out of the liberal playbook... mixing new wave band references. Talking Heads =! Devo

To survive in a counterculture you gotta have counterintelligence. Or in the least, ever changing moods.

I noticed that this weeks volcano featured the old classic Tacoma Urbanist Action Figure. Was the content of this cartoon deemed objectionable? I can't really see why.

I hope it's not because of fear for cross-pollinating objections based on the Volcano's sister publication, The Fort Lewis Ranger. But I am struggling to see anything that's could be deemed unprintable on the level of the cop/kkk high five.

by NineInchNachos
on 7/28/2008 @ 11:08am
this was purely an economical decision. The volcano is a little paper and cannot risk to offend her advertisers.

you will see/read nothing that ever criticizes (or might be interpenetrated as criticism ) :

1. airforce/army/navy(?)
2. BCPA
3. EQC

FeedTacoma has no corporate sponsors and therefore is beholden to none (well if you don't count sitecrafting). BTW, Are they hiring? ;)

by NineInchNachos
on 7/28/2008 @ 11:20am
also for the record, this cartoon was not an attack on the airforce. That would be like attacking a screwdriver for the faults of the screwdriver operator.

This was an attack on the arms industry + civilian leadership

Just because Kevin COULD go through and delete any anti-SiteCrafting propaganda that one might spread on f>>t doesn't necessarily mean he would...

Nice catch izenmania. I am afraid it's true.

The Volcano censored RR Anderson's Tacomic this week. For now, RR Anderon's Tacomic for this week still looks to be up on Feed Tacoma. For now at least.

This is the second known Volcano censorship of a Tacomic.

Here was the first:

Meanwhile, RR Anderson did not fair as well in this week's Volcano. Fresh from his successful Tacomic party, Anderson now finds his work stifled. Sure enough, the Volcano ran a Tacomic of his as they do every week:

...

For better or worse, the Weekly Volcano censored RR Anderson's Tacomic this week. Yet, many readers will no doubt be seeing the Russell Tacomic for the first time so it certainly wasn't a waste. In fact, it may even be more relevant and popular.

i.feedtacoma.com/Erik/volcano-features-d...

Is there a censorship conspiracy in Tacoma? Who is pulling the strings on acceptable art?

Most troubling is the Tacomic was not in any way slanderous or obscene. It appears to have been pulled for the subject matter alone, the worst reason.

Who was able to pressure the Volcano to cave in and censor RR Anderson's Tacomic?

Is meaningful public discourse off-limits in Tacoma?

Way to run from any potential controversy, Volcano. Just another reason why they suck. I love how they want to be this cool "alternative news-source" but they can't even print a comic that might be conveyed as the least bit controversial. I understand that it might offend some advertisers, and they are apparently always hurting for cash, but don't pretend to be something you're not.

Don't listen to her Volcano , I, RR Anderson, your humble political cartoonist still loves you--You're way cooler than the tacoma weekly. and 100 times cooler than the business examiner.

I'm pretty sure they stopped listening to me a long time ago RR. After they asked for "feedback" and got some they didn't like I'm surprised I wasn't banned. They pulled out the big guns and had the owner come out and tell me off.

The military is Socialism in the purest form. Our food and shopping is government-subsidized just like The old Soviet Union; the U.S. tax payer is billed (bilked?) for our government medical care; our paychecks come from the tax dollars of citizens who work at real jobs in the private sector and industry; we receive guaranteed annual pay raises; and it’s nigh impossible to get fired from our jobs and we have a taxpayer-funded pension when we retire. We also get 30 days paid vacation every year!

Yes, we make our living completely dependent on taxpayer-provided government largesse which is not dissimilar from other forms of government employment. The military is also the biggest institution of Big Government.

Whenever a civilian approaches me to offer their thanks for my service, I’m always careful to thank them for paying their taxes on time and for not crying about it like Sarah Palin and the slovenly teabaggers. "

fredo it's because of mean statements like yours that drive our brave heroes to dissolve their lovers' bodies in acid baths and jump off bridges.

If the Stars & Stripes sees JBLM as a stand-out problem base, it's for a reason. As said earlier, the S&S is the Army's newspaper. They don't write out negatives about service facilities without REALLY good cause. I'm sure many people can come forward and tell of the wonderful treatment they've gotten, but the overall figures are what gets looked at.

I'd need to see a number of things for data before judging the article. For example:

How many troops are there overall on the various bases surveyed?

How large are the off-base communities, and how directly supportive are they of their local military?
How many of those bases' troops have seen deployments?
How many have seen multiple deployments?
If multiple deployments, how long is the break between them?

@Freakwater: You're totally right. The military is pure socialism. But it's a very necessary one. I don't understand how people who whine and scream the loudest about their taxes expect to be protected from the world they fear so much if they aren't willing to pay you.

And of *course* your medical should be part of your pay. Sheesh!

I find it hysterically funny that a VERY close friend who grew up on Army bases with socialized (military) medicine, then joined the Navy and got more socialized (military) medicine, is now retired, and is now getting his socialized (retired military) medicine. What's funny about that? He HATES the Obama Health Care Plan because it socializes medicine.

It *is* getting easier to fire military. Two pass-bys and an upper-level (E-6+, or O-5+) is basically told to find a better job somewhere else.

Thank you for your service. Your welcome for my taxes. And next time you look in the mirror, thank yourself, too. For both. (Why DO military have to pay Federal taxes? I've never understood that.)"
