After finishing I even chased her around our new bungalow with a worn VHS Doctor Strangelove cassette tape. WERE YOU AWARE OF IT? |

[Always be cautious of compliments early in a post :) ]
One of the best aspects showing action is the angle between the bomb and the jet and the perspective of the bomb.
A couple of queries RR:
- Did you consider having the "hat" arm poised up and behind the head in a typical cowboy style rather in front?
- Was there a reason the handle on the bomb is at a 45 degree angle pointed adjacent toward the reader?
- Were you tempted to draw "woosh" lines from the jet to the bomb? Would that have ruined the cartoon?
My comment on the degree of browbeating: just about right. Three lines of text in the picture. However, they are a bit different with a different font and add something each.
Its going to be good to see these drawings at the show. |

by NineInchNachos on 5/9/2007 @ 11:05pm | Hello Sir,
Good batch of questions as always.
1. Indeed I considered the arm up and behind... however I was matching the poses of Slim Pickens from the cover of my Doctor Strange love dvd. I could not find any other rodeo reference photos on account of the Click! internet blackout in the new house. Alex Toth would say I was "faking it" with this pose and he would be correct.
2. Bomb handles are always installed at 45 deg. angles, my drawing is simply a reflection of real life.
3. I resisted the temptation to draw "woosh" lines as you describe them. Readers may be accustomed to seeing these "Woosh" lines in main stream comics like GARFIELD or FAMILY CIRCUS; however, I despise these commercial enterprises so much I've opted for the more spartan, Franciscan monk woosh-less cartooning lifestyle choices.
In all, I am sad to see Tom go. He was one of the few who knew how to stand up to that fat pig Rick Talbert. |
