"I think the chances are excellent," Baarsma said. "I don’t see where there’s a hitch. We want to see it move forward. We have a lot invested. We’re deeply invested in this project."

I understand that Baarsma may call in the big guns to get this project on track. The call has gone out for Prium and the Gintz Group to get involved with this project pronto. This project is too important for the future of Tacoma to let it slip from our grasp.

I like that the LeMay Museum stores will show off cars rather than being a racetrack. Thus, when the oil begins really running out it should increase in populality.

I can only imagine the yelling in Mr. LeMay's house between him and his wife everytime he bought another old car instead of taking her on a vacation.

Let's be thankful that Mr. LeMay didn't collect ceramic chipmunks. Then we would really look stupid by giving him our money.

ha ha! he also had a huge collection of sausage grinders. Now that would be an interesting exhibit

"City Councilmember Mike Lonergan, the only member to question LeMay officials at the hearing, asked about repayment of the loan. Following an explanation of expectations by Madeira, Lonergan said, 'That’s what I was hoping to hear.'"

You can watch the public hearing on TV Tacoma archive council meeting for april 21, 2009. The explanation the dude from LeMay gave Lonergan was basically that it was 'too complex to go into right now' and that they would sell commemorative bricks as a fund raiser.

Yeah RR. But have you stopped your city council coverage?

Council members, stung by criticism from taxpayers, emphasized that the federal government is the source of the loan funds – not the city’s general fund.

Councilwoman Marilyn Strickland said the museum will serve as “our own economic stimulus package.” It will provide construction jobs to women and minority-owned companies, and give Tacoma a tourist attraction, Strickland said.

I like the the LeMay Museum. Its on, or nearly on, Tacoma's wonder LINK system. Now LINK will have more to go to.

How about a Curtis LeMay museum to boot.
Then we could have huge hangers with B-29 (B-50),
B-36,B-47,B-52 and B-58 bombers. We could even have some S.A.C. obsolete nuclear (special) weapons on display.

The Tacoma Dome would make a good Curtis LeMay museum

How about a Curtis Mayfield Museum?

Prolific songwriter for the Impressions plus solo work:

"Move On Up", "Superfly" and way too many more to list.

"That plan comprises two elements – finalization of Department of Housing Development Section 108 loan, which has been approved by the Tacoma City Council, and approval of funding from the federal New Market Tax Credit program. Authorization of this second element is being finalized by US Bank."

*****The call has gone out for Prium and the Gintz Group to get involved with this project pronto.******Yeah, because that Works Out Well! oh wait, was that sarcasm??

mr funkoma...er, Mark, worked as an intern at LeMay recently and has been going out there for decades to see the cars...(he is a reformed vintage European car nut)...most of them are not even good specimens...just a lot of stuff that looks pretty unless you know something about cars...but whatev.......
Mofo......I could not agree with you more (I could but whatev...) A Curtis Mayfield museum is a way better idea than A Mausoleum to One Of The Worst Ideas Man Has Invented....the car. I love my car, but yours is yuk.
The museum will generate a lot of low-wage jobs and about 15 higher paying jobs...and my old neighbors around there will prosper....

The LeMay saga started long before I was a reporter here and has been covered in much more depth by business and city hall reporters before I started filling in on the beat a few short weeks ago.

And while I don't have opinions, I certainly have questions (as did the members of the City Council at the meeting):

* How many city-owned parking spaces will be lost during construction, when/how will they be replaced and what will be the impact on traffic/parking in the meantime?

* How much money does the museum need to make from leasing retail space (on land donated by the city) in order to break even or make a profit?

* What are the attendance projections of half a million visitors per year – nearly triple that of the Museum of Glass – based on?

And so on...
