1/8 - New City Council *Team Tacoma* to Be Sworn in Today, Tacoma Urbanist

by topofthehill on 1/8/2008 @ 3:48pm
Stenger seems to get a lot of "humorous" flack on these Tacoma blogs. As a hilltop resident, I really appreciated having a council member that actually lived in the neighborhood. His bit of uncontained passion was a plus (to me) and even reflective of my part of town.

It was certainly exhilarating to see Stenger take a passionate stand on something you agreed with him on.

I think most of us are endeared to his passionate ways on the Council. We jest but the City needs reps with this kind of fire to make happen the progress that's good for all of Tacoma.

I will miss Stenger. The dude should run for mayor.

Hilltop Forever!

I just watched them get sworn in on streaming TV Tacoma. It was an emotional experience.

Impressive public comment period.

The East Side Neighborhood outperformed with their support of the new alcohol impact area.

The new council members got to see the "regulars" as well.

Public Comment Period makes the whole endeavor worth it.

Speaking of regulars... shouldn't it be required that you actually live in the city to comment? Or at least comment on a weekly basis? Doesn't UP have a public comment period? What's up with that?

Nice comic by the way!

Interesting question. Yet, many people comment from outside the city.

However, your idea isn't the first thought on it. Sometimes during a committee meeting, the mayor will ask "is there anyone from Tacoma who would like to comment first...anyone from Tacoma....."

There is also a funny dynamic whenever there is an amendment to a resolution, there is a whole new public comment period required at which the UP place folks saddle up for a whole other round of commenting.

It is great. The UP folks are just lonely and need to bask in the afterglow of tacoma's background microwave radiation.

I think a pubic access channel would be great. Folks wouldn't need to wait for council meetings to get on TV. I've been watching the streaming TV Tacoma and they seem to have lots of dead time that could be utilized better.

Yep. All they really have is a suburb. Let's see if they have the willingness to proceed with the town center or if they will be be a city in name only.
