Last night's SCATS Screencast was even more screencast-like than last week. That means our superfans could actually watch Stowe draw this time around. That's right! Fewer technical hurdles than last time meant we enjoyed getting together for the collaboration and getting to know a few of our superfans much better. Thanks to Stowey22 (all the way from New Jersey!), dave, WaywardScooterGirl, and others that didn't join in to chat for watching! But one question remains...

How the heck should we get more people to become SCATS superfans? Stowe's been itchy about wanting of more fans for a while but now it's my turn. I want more people to follow and look forward to SCATS each week. Unfortunately neither Stowe nor I are marketing gurus so I look to you, dear superfans, for your ideas and inspiration to help spread the word. Ideas I've vetoed thus far have been:

  • Stowe sketching SCATS characters into works hanging in local galleries
  • Kevin hax0rzing other webcomic websites to display only SCATS
  • Leaflets placed under windshield wipers of cars in the parking lot of a gun show
  • Draw a controversial, sin-to-visualize religious figure into a strip
  • Research and place hypnotic messages within SCATS

Or other things like fliers at comic shops, attending conventions, etc, etc, and blah, blah. ;) Please let us know your thoughts or, heck, feel free to help spread the SCATS word yourself! We're really proud of what we put together here and are only hoping to share that with others. Thanks and Happy New Year!

I like yurts. They make decent offices for fly-by-night central Asian cargo airlines, too...

Seriously though- Think about a SCATS promotion with Mark Lindquist as Hypnotoad-

A duo of your skills should be able to make this work...

One thing that I've seen that drives people to other webcomics is providing a guest strip for, or putting cameos of characters from, other webcomics in your comic. so maybe have some guys from penny arcade, or unquestionablecontent, or what have you.

get in touch with toher artists and have an exchange. post the strips or sketches on deviant. You need to increase your exposure to increase your click-through!

I like the subliminal idea. Maybe something like what BMW did. Gives a whole new meaning to the term "flash" advertising.

Also, is it likely the little people in the little metropolis rise up and increase in numbers to rebel against Godzira and King Kong a la scrubbing bubbles? Just sayin'.

Does Kevin smoke Stogies now?

by KevinFreitas on 1/6/2011 @ 8:48pm
@Joel: As Hannibal goes so I go. And, didn't he actually smoke a Stogie on the A-Team dressed as Godzilla once?

@Jinx: Hypno-Prosecutor, I love it!

@Joe: Wow, I totally want to see an ad like that now. I could see the SCATS logo working as an after image like that. Hmm...

Maybe have RR advertise for you via Twitter more, that guy sends out like a thousand tweets a day, I'm not sure how many followers he has but judging by how much that guy tweets somebody must be reading it all.

I'll try to recommend to a couple of friends but I tried that with the Tacomic and it never goes over well. When conversation turns to web comics I'm like "You should check out The Tacomic, it's a hyper-local web comic out of Tacoma Washington."

friend: "Did you say tuhcomic?"

me: "No, Tacomic, like, Tacoma-Comic."

friend: "Oh, thought you were developing a stutter."

me: "yeah, it's good, he draws politicians pooping and stuff and then posts links to relevant news articles"

This is usually when the person I'm talking to changes the subject. I'll try to push SCATS on a few people. They may think I'm trying to push a comic about poop on them, so I'll be sure to reference the pithy dialogue and interesting pop culture themes. Best of luck in your promotional efforts.
