That means you need to replace it.

If the radioactive element (americium) isn't emitting enough alpha particles, your smoke alarm is as good as useless.

A functional Guide to how Smoke Alarms Work sounds like a great idea for Xylene Dream!

Thorax, I know what a beeping smoke detector means. What I was getting at (and many people seem to miss this), is sometimes it takes FOREVER to find suitable batteries, because the smoke detector is so picky.

9v?

I was referring to smoke alarms that beep for infinity no matter how many new batteries you try to put in them. Those are the bad ones.

No offense meant.

And let's not forget that we can make a physics package with enough Americium though it would take a enormous number of smoke detectors to do it.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Americium#Fission
