Still curious about the "top two ranked choice voting"? Want to write in a candidate who didn't make the top two? Guess what- you can't. Just ask Randy Boss, who tried to do exactly that after coming in fifth during the primary for a Pierce County Council seat.
According to Pierce County Auditor Julie Anderson, RCW 29A.60.021 and WAC 434-262-160 prohibit the County Auditor's Office from counting write-in votes during the General Election.
Feeling disenfranchised yet?

by ixia on 9/8/2010 @ 8:54am | number 2 pencil? course you can't! |
by thriceallamerican on 9/8/2010 @ 9:48am | I haven't followed the story closely, but I thought that there was a bit more nuance in that they wouldn't count write-in votes for candidates eliminated in the primary, but write-ins for individuals who didn't run during the primary would be valid votes. Am I wrong? Aside: top two is crap. See: any race in which either 2 Ds or 2 Rs advanced to the general election where the 3rd place candidate from the opposite party was only slightly out of contention. I still contend that given some time, voters would have come to like RCV (even if the parties didn't like it). |
by NineInchNachos on 9/8/2010 @ 9:56am | I read it that way too Jamie. Don't write in people need to file the correct paperwork though in addition ? |
by The Jinxmedic on 9/8/2010 @ 12:46pm | It's all a game, but a game with flexible rules favoring those currently in power. It's like a baseball game where all the players are on the same team high-fiving each other, but it costs $200.00 for a ticket to watch. And attendence is mandatory.
I think Thorax said something about this once... |
by NineInchNachos on 9/8/2010 @ 1:10pm | don't turn to TO'T in matters of state... Stick to his sourdough bread recipes. |
by Thorax O'Tool on 9/8/2010 @ 5:20pm | Heh. Eventually you'll see the Light, RR... |

by The Jinxmedic on 9/9/2010 @ 5:51am | RR's right. We should write in Commander Peter Quincy Taggert . |
by tommyllew on 9/9/2010 @ 8:42am | I have no idea who Commander Peter Quincy Taggert is, but he's got my vote. I just hope he has a Weber barbecue for a head like that guy who hates crows. |
by The Jinxmedic on 9/9/2010 @ 9:06am | Jason Nesmith as Commander Taggert: "As long as there is injustice, whenever a Targathian baby cries out, wherever a distress signal sounds among the stars, we'll be there. This fine ship, this fine crew. Never give up... and never surrender."

by NineInchNachos on 9/9/2010 @ 10:22am | that sounds like the 3 amigos |
by The Jinxmedic on 9/9/2010 @ 10:44am | Heh. They are pretty similar:
"Wherever there is injustice, you will find us. Wherever there is suffering, we'll be there. Wherever liberty is threatened, you will find... ...The Three Amigos! " |
by NineInchNachos on 9/9/2010 @ 10:49am | ah there were some great speeches in that film
