I was dive bombed by two crows on Sunday outside of the Jet building (across from the Swiss). It must've been Ocryx and Joe protecting their booty!

Yes, the crows dominate on the trail above the Joy Building as well.

how does one get a job with this company again? Can I be in charge of novelty coins?
by morgan on 6/15/2010 @ 1:30pm
Wow! So cool! Aren't those the guys that were going to move downtown?
by The Jinxmedic on 6/15/2010 @ 1:57pm
|@Morgan: Yup. Them's the guys.
@NIN: Heh. The novelty coins are MINE, I tell you. Grrrr.
However, anyone interested in doing contract design work for the mint, forward an electronic resume with portfolio link or attached JPGs of work to email@example.com. Suggestion- classical imagery is big plus, ability to hand draw said classical imagery is a big double plus plus. Think of the Tiffany medals from the late 1800's, and St. Gauden's Liberties, and you get the idea.
(Sculptors wanted, also.)
by L.S.Erhardt on 6/15/2010 @ 2:08pm
So, why didn't they move downtown?
by The Jinxmedic on 6/15/2010 @ 2:16pm
The mint moved all production to Dayton, Nevada starting last year.
Why? Just "chalk it up" as another local business that could no longer afford to manufacture in the state of Washington due to the costs of doing business here. We still have a separate office in Federal Way housing about a third of the design department- perhaps we can get that into downtown when the current lease is up... ...maybe the Bank of California building? That would be cool.

I like that map case, looks like it would be perfect for an iPad. I wonder where one would purchase such an item.
by The Jinxmedic on 6/15/2010 @ 2:29pm
|They will be offered on the mint's webstore in the near future as part of an upcoming geocaching campaign. (This particular case is a special sneak preview prize for a whoever wins this Friday's Tacoma Chalk Scene chalk-off).
It will be available in both Black canvas and Army ACU (digital camo) pattern nylon.
by Crenshaw Sepulveda on 6/15/2010 @ 2:40pm
Oh, for sure in the Army ACU. That is some great camo.

The BOC building would be a great choice!
by The Jinxmedic on 6/15/2010 @ 4:28pm
The boss always wanted to be downtown, and had his eyes on that building years ago when the company was much smaller. Then two years ago, the Post Office was going to be the next choice (but it was still going to be pretty tight quarters, and there would have been some serious asbestos abatement required in the build-out). But by then there was no real support by the city or the state for the museum plan, and combined with the fact that the business climate hadn't improved any, the entire production moved to Nevada.
Hmm- our Washington presence is small enough for the BOC building again- I wonder?

@ Dave L: That's a great name for an exhibition, by the way...
...Just remember, we will need a minimum six week lead time if we want to have something together in time for New Year's.

You know, should there be a tie, we really need some manner of tie-breaker policy in place. Especially for a wicked prize like this.
How about a 1 hour OT chalk competition between the tied parties on the following Saturday, 12 noon at Tollefson?
