It's always nice to get a little perspective- just not from the bottom of the hill...

Not looking good for Old City Hall: perhaps the building most associated with Tacoma:

A frozen sprinkler in downtown Tacomas Old City Hall thawed and broke today, dumping about 30,000 gallons of water throughout the historic buildings six floors.

Losing this building would be 10 times worse than losing the Luzon IMO. Something good better happen soon.

30,000 gallons. That's a mighty big water bill.
And (of course) what isn't cleaned up will be frozen come morning.

Ugh, something really needs to be done.

I'm thinking that the Old City Hall would make a superb addition to the UWT's real estate holdings. They could put a whole educational department in it and have the Link to connect it with the main campus. Perhaps the Russell Company could do something useful and buy the building and endow some school with their name on it in conjunction with the UWT. Lasting legacy for the Russell Company, more education downtown, Old City Hall saved. Lots of win in this. The money would be a drop in the bucket for Russell and the goodwill they'd be buying would be enormous. Time is fleeting.

@crenshaw: I would delete my "F. Russell" poster blog post if they did that.

Even so, I heard the current OCH owners are sitting on this property till the Elks takes off. That way they can sell for more $$$.

Right now it looks like the current owners are sitting on a future mushroom farm. They could wait for the Elks to be renovated but believe me it will not be the savior of downtown Tacoma. It will be a nice addition, no question, but between now and opening day we will lose more businesses downtown and one has to wonder how much economy we will have left to support a fancy brew pub. I think the UWT and Russell getting involved with the OCH will actually do more for the downtown than the Elks will. Indeed, the Elks would do very well having a branch of the UWT across the street from them.

amen. history dying

UWT isn't buying any more for a long time. They already own a ton of land & buildings that are yet to be utilized.

So then, why not get WSU interested in OCH?

Or, flashback to to the GN disaster at Wellington, on my birthday 100 years ago:
