Ocryx and Joe saving the Kalakala- RR style

Yes, the Kalakala is still in grave danger- perhaps RR style is the only way to get people to do something? Er, maybe not...

Recently again, RR was complimented for nice work on an O&J comic. Well, you see, RR doesn't do O&J. The Jinxmedics do O&J. O&J are clean pen-and-ink with grayscale shading. RR does loose pencil work with a gradient halfscreen background, and usually involves gross body imagery of execretory function, or some-such.

If the jinxmedics were to draw RR style, it would look something like this....

but if you look closely I'm really drawing ravens. You can tell because ravens have wedge tails, crows have fan tails..
However it is kinda fun confusing people.

Parity on Wikipedia:
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parity
There are so many funny ways to interpret it.

by The Jinxmedic on 1/25/2012 @ 9:15am
Erik: Heh.
Chris 7.2: The "parity" I referenced was a mispelling of "parody" by A Jeremy Gregory fan. An excerpt appears here:

The comic you posted as a parity to Jeremy Gregorys work was a sad attempt at reproducing something great. Dont quit your day job, your not so good.

I must admit the P-A-R-O-D-Y was indeed a sad attempt to imitate the characteristic style of TRUE GRIT for comic effect or ridicule. Y-O-U-’-R-E correct in your assessment of greatness. Thank you!

MEANWHILE HERE IS AN UPDATE ON THE KALAKALA FROM THE KALAKALA OWNER (via facebook):

Mr. Leonard Boekelman, from Stockton, CA. owns Global Seaven Oceanic, LLC, Leonard and his wife, Ronald Waling (Bellevue), and Kimberly Schmidtke(Bellvue) were the new Kalakala buyers. The Kalakala did sell with a Bill of Sale signed December 18, 2011 at the Hilton Hotel in Bellvue, WA. They did pay $1.00 but failed to place any more funds into escrow. They were real and Leonard was a millionaire not billionaire as media stated. They promised to pay for immediate safety repairs and tow her to Stockton, CA June 18, 2012. No funds, no works done for repairs, and so their Bill of Sale became Null & Void. Other fund interests with private equity firm in Houston, TX. is in process. First fund application is in process and may take up to 120 days. Many other interests were presented but nothing worthy of saving her. Charles Medlin, failed in 2003, to purchase the Kalakala. He tried and failed again.Steve Rodrigues is meeting with Washington State Ferries executive director regarding Pier 48 in Seattle. Pier 48 is owned by WSDOT. Steve will share the Texas loan and investment fund and requesting the Kalakala project to become a part of the 2025 Seattle waterfront development master plan. This is the home of the Kalakala, and where she belongs. We are only asking for a $1 per year 20 year moorage lease. Steve is also asking waterfront committee and businesses, county executives, city officials for letters of endorsement to allow the Kalakala to have her future home in Seattle. The fund is important to identify where the Kalakalaf will have a home and generate future operating revenues. In the mean time The Kalakala SEC private offering is still selling $1 per share. Phase I is to close July 3, 2012 or after selling up to a $1 million. Anyone in America can purchase these Kalakala shares today.

by ChrisTopher on 1/25/2012 @ 9:24am
Somebody in Hollywood should buy the Kalakala as a spaceship prop and put giant pencils on it for engines. I wish somebody in the movie biz would get RR's hints already.

by NineInchNachos on 1/25/2012 @ 9:32am
I'm inspired to draw more guest strip tributes.  Here is how you draw crows! comics.feedtacoma.com/tacomic/tacomic-le...

by The Jinxmedic on 1/25/2012 @ 9:39am
That's not how I draw crows... I simply draw an outline in ink, scan it, and color it in Photoshop.

by CaptainBritton on 1/25/2012 @ 9:59am
Where's your tutorial on eating crow?

by cisserosmiley on 1/25/2012 @ 10:02am
I'm speechless

by NineInchNachos on 1/25/2012 @ 10:05am
if I had fully developed, reoccurring characters in a cartoon strip I was drawing they'd each have individual feed>>tacoma commenting accounts.
imagine!  REAL cartoon strip characters interacting with the fans!  It is why god invented multiple internet browsers!

My grandpa and I snuck aboard the Kalakala back when it was in lake union. Took some video too of the interior. Wonder if I can find it.

above was a picture from the front of the ship. a whole rusty floor was removed in alaska to make this big space for the fish processing equipment... the hippy seattle artists thought it would make a great theater performance space.

The original art for this Tacomic - er, "Ocryx and Joe" is for sale. Only $666.66!

(or make offer)

This piece features both pen-and-ink and RR-inspired loose scratchy pencil on the same piece of paper! It's like two completely different pieces of art for the price of one!

Jinxmedic: "One ferry to rule them all"

LOL!!!!!

(BTW, amazingly accurate homage in the illustration. It had just the right mix of visceral repulsion, style and commentary.)

by The Jinxmedic on 1/27/2012 @ 4:13pm
Pretty repulsive, isn't it? Ugh.  :-)

by NineInchNachos on 1/27/2012 @ 4:36pm
you'd never see this in a respectable (boring) mainstream newspaper. Only on feed tacoma folks!  Underground cartooning at it's best!

pulling from their facebook (posted yesterday)...
Kalakala MvHow can they? First, USCG $40,000 per day fine. Then, landowner removes all living & furnishings from modular office and dumps it all on the ground yesterday, and Why? What is power? How can this be overcome? They are making it more difficult. The landowner is now suing. And, everyone is happy now. But, I will find strength. And, God is with me and the truth of all this will come to be seen. It is just all coming sooner than expected.
Kalakala Mv This is the land owner who 8 years ago called and asked me to bring the Kalakala to his private property. This same man became secretary treasure of ourfoundation for 6 years. He never gave a cent of hard money. But, gave safety. He is now facing government. He is now doing all he can not only to force the Kalakala off his property. But, taking all that helps away. He donated the home over 3 years ago. He knows I was living there. He knows without it Iwill need to leave. But, I will not and will not leave the Kalakala without care. I will not let the Kalakala sink. That is the only way the USCG will take her. But, 10's of millions of dollars in law suits will happen against me if she sinks. I just want them to take her alive, afloat, and let it all bedone.

Kalakala Mv Because I have been given a letter from the State denying any state lands. Because Port of Tacoma denies any rights to take her anywhere. Because USCG denies us to take her anywhere unless we pay approx 1 mil of forced repairs. No one anywhere anyhow for any safety will support her protections today.

Kalakala Mv Your portal view shall live within you. Just know all that you did was for good. Today, no one can take that view and feeling away. I will face many lawsuits now. But, even judgments or them taking her will never destroy her. Thank you for doing good. Thank you for being righteous.

Kalakala Mv Please know what she has. More than any vessel. She has given much. Our need to let her go will not be done in silence. She deserved much more governmentstudy and care before and after leaving Alaska. But, publicity and 15 years of sufferings have proved the wrongs that will become known. And, she will win. They are wrong for all that the Kalakala has needed to go through without any Hope from the beginning of coming back home. She should have stayed buried and in peace.

Kalakala Mv I now have much more strength to do what needs to be done. I will not give up and will be patient and honest and will see the Kalakala rise to her Hope for us to share with others.

Kalakala Mv They do not need such political involvement. So, they ignore our efforts of doing good for society. Don't worry our society does not live on bread alone, and the rich love money. They will end their lives without being able to take it with them. What we have is worth much more to society. Politicians havefailed and so have those who have money. We have not failed.

Kalakala Mv No access. I may be denied land access soon.

Kalakala Mv There are 36 maritime states in all of America. Our national and other states, like CA, have laws that govern to protect and respect their past for theirheritage and culture. All states except WA has proof of what they have to share. I am sorry that WA State has lost the Kalakala and so many other maritime vessels. I think it is a tragedy. But, our nation outside of WA has so much to offer, and we should be grateful for what has been saved.

The last remaining ship of the Great White Fleet, the USS Olympia (presently in Philadelphia) is probably doomed, too.

Nobody cares about anything anymore unless it's an X-Box game or an iPhone app.

Bring on the Zombie Apocalypse, I say.

Is there a zombie apocalypse app?

by L.S.Erhardt on 3/8/2012 @ 8:15pm
Why didn't Rodrigues (is that spelled right?) do a kickstarter campaign?

by The Jinxmedic on 3/9/2012 @ 8:00am
Local zombie apocalypse will occur on 29 September at/near the Dome. Be here warned.

(Perhaps the zombie Kalakala will attend...)

by cisserosmiley on 3/9/2012 @ 8:38am
Download the Kala - Kala app. You fling broken promises at a big silver boat until it crashes apart.

by NineInchNachos on 3/10/2012 @ 9:27am
Kalakala Mv Shame. Why? We have appealed a USCG Notice of Violation last week 3 times and have won the appeal. The Kalakala now get's a chance to make her statements. Her statements will be without shame, and the rest of her story will soon begin in defense of all that who, what, and still could have significantly represented for a future generation to know who we were and where we came from and how life was. It is only a shame that we all have allowed this to happen. She is not God. She is of God who has allowed us all to see. Life. Good. Bad. Power of government and lack of government. Suppressions. Hearts. Peace. Hate. But, most of all this is more than about our protections of our earth's water quality, it is not just about looking ahead and protection our environment, it is more than about our day to day protections of our public safety. It is not just about a $5 million cost if she sinks. Or, $27 million law suit because the businesses are impacted if she sinks. These financial, environmental, governmental, and public issues have all neglected that they did not nor ever should have become the problem at all to begin with.

So, the Kalakala will speak and share her Truths. And, you will come to see it all. This is about life, hope, dreams, love, and all together never forgetting that we can never allow the hidden powers of government to suppress it all. It is government who has been allowed by all of us to let this happen. We should all be shamed. I am not giving into government nor allowing citizens to ignore what they all have done. The Kalakala is not as an idol nor in need to return to glory. But, she is still filled with her good spirit that gives us all that God's purpose was intended. Therefore, she lives through us that can share our story and know that Hope was faith once.
