Maybe they should be required to have solar panels. Ha, like that'll happen.

@ RR: I'm still working on figuring out THORAX-O-COLOR. That's why you're seeing it on the Grab Bags.
Tips & advice on coloring would be appreciated.

@ Fredo I'll say something. Can't guarantee it'll be coherent.

@ the dead whale: now you know why your mama told you not to play in traffic.
Fortunately not a relative, though I'm sure they knew each other. Whales seem to know each and every other whale. Not sure how though...

Considering the power it takes to run these billboards, it isn't a very "sustainable" solution either. City Council sucks.

by NineInchNachos on 7/29/2010 @ 11:45am
is interesting that the same council that can have a moment of silence for a slain code enforcement officer can turn around and compromise the city codes she fought to enforce. Meanwhile the pocket park downtown—as of this writing overshadowed by BUY ALCOHOL! CLEAR CHANNEL billboards—that is dedicated to city employees killed in action (Officer Larry Frost Memorial Park) has a fountain lying in ruin… you’d think after the Lakewood cop murders there would be a renewed interest in maintaining this little memorial park for god sakes. No, we need to protect the “freedom of speech” for the non-humans! People need to be told to buy hard liquor! or gorge themselves on McBurgers and gasoline.

WTF?

Note: The same people who maintain Larry Frost Memorial Park will be in charge of maintaining Chinese Reconciliation Park. good luck with that.

Just put one of these overgrown lite brites in the park of your choosing, and let the $$$ from Clear Channel fund the upkeep!

We could be chalking at night under the glow of the billboard at Larry Frost Park sponsored by Old English 800 HG.

I think what the council should have done was force all billboards to be actual painted advertisements. That would create more jobs for artists and help solidify Tacoma's uniqueness as an "art" city.

FTW. That's a great idea, Elliot. I like old-style mechanical billbords, and I do miss the hand-painted signs in Cheney. I knew a guy who knew a guy who knew a guy who was supposedly the last of the hand-lettered sign painters. Betcha Clear Channel can't kern worth a darn.
